Fantastic write up about how an 18th-century French mathematician laid the ground work for how the internet is able to function. Joseph Fourier actually passed away before completely finishing his theorem, so he absolutely had no idea of how valuable the transformation could be. Thinking he was showing a simpler way to deal with complex algebraic equations, I'm sure he would be shocked to know that almost 200 years later his work would transform basically every industry on the planet.
Beyond this, he's also the first to discover the greenhouse effect. Strange to think that if this discovery would've garnered the same attention he would literally have created and saved the modern economy.
